Yet even when you do pray, your prayers are not answered, because you pray just for selfish reasons. JAMES 4:3 (Contemporary English Version)

How is your prayer life? When you pray do you come with a sincere heart or are your prayers just used for temporary help or are they just an act? I’m sure some of you can remember praying to God to get over that bad high, “Oh, Oh GOD …Please, Please..>cough< help me… and ‘ I promise ‘ I’ll never __________ again!” And when you get over that high you find yourself right back. Or “…okay GOD if you ______ I’ll do________ ” Been there, done that, lied about it and got the shirt in all colors.

Scripture tells us that selfish prayers will not be answered. Let me be clear, our forgiving and sovereign GOD can choose to answer any prayer that he feels fit. But based on his WORD if we come with selfish reasoning and a sinful heart that does not really crave forgiveness he may not even be listening to that prayer. “Your sins are the roadblock between you and your God. That’s why he doesn’t answer your prayers or let you see his face (ISAIAH 59:2 CEV)

We “… know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him” (John 9:31). Yeah, yeah I know we were all once sinners (some still are). But the difference would be “…but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him”. He will hear our petitions. Come true and come with a contrite heart in prayer for if you “…had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened (PSALM 66:18).AMEN.
