Take [with me] your share of the hardships and suffering [which you are called to endure] as a good (first-class) soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier when in service gets entangled in the enterprises of [civilian] life; his aim is to satisfy and please the one who enlisted him. (2 Timothy 2:3-4 Amplified Bible)

We are connected to our past. We are connected to CHRISTendom’s forefathers, the Apostles and Disciples before us. They took the WORD and turned their world “upside down”, they went forward in Truth knowing that an outcome of suffering was guaranteed.
We are called, we are destined to stand with them. “Do not be ashamed to tell others about what our Lord said, or of me here in prison. I am here because of Jesus Christ. Be ready to suffer for preaching the Good News and God will give you the strength you need (2 Timothy 1:8 NLV).”
MATTHEW: suffered death by the sword in Ethiopia. JOHN: boiled in oil at Rome then imprisoned on Patmos was later freed. PETER: crucified upside down on an x shaped cross. JAMES the Just: thrown over one hundred feet form the Temple, survived then was beat to death. JAMES the Greater: beheaded at Jerusalem along with the Rome officer who knelt beside him and declared his new faith. BARTHOLOMEW/NATHANIEL: flayed to death by a whip in Armenia. ANDREW: crucified on an x shaped cross on Patras and still preached until his death 2 days later. THOMAS: died at the end of a spear in India. MATTHIAS: stoned then beheaded. MARK: dragged by horses thru Egypt till death. LUKE: hanged in Greece. JUDE: shot to death with arrows. And PAUL: tortured and then beheaded by Nero in Rome. Countless others that suffered for their stance in CHRIST. Can we, can you stand on the TRUTH as they did?
As a soldier in CHRIST it will do us well to leave the things of this world behind us. After tasting the Bread of life and drinking form the living Waters what do we have in common with the filth of this world? Nothing. Turning from CHRIST is worse for us than not knowing him. “If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning (2 Peter 2:20 NIV).”
ABBA FATHER we pray that we can bring you glory. We pray that we too can stand in TRUTH upon your WORD as our brethren passed and those still facing hardship and martyrdom today. LORD we thank you for the things we take for granted on a daily bases and ask that your strength be given to us during our time of need and time of greed, for we have what you bless us with and we shall receive according to your will. LORD pray that our focus be on your WORD and not on the things this world can offer the flesh. AMEN.
