Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?” John 1:38 (New King James Version)

The scripture reads, “Then Jesus turned … said to them, ‘What do you seek?’…”. First things first, the LORD CHRIST took notice of them “before” they made themselves known. As our loving GOD does, He was awaiting their approach and as when we choose to follow Him, he will speak first to us and ask, “…’What do you seek?’…”

That question was/is not meant as a reprimand. He is simply asking us, what is it that you are requesting from me, what is it that you are seeking in me? “…’what do you seek?’…” Think about it. What is it that you are seeking in CHRIST? Are you seeking a teacher, ruler, and reconciler? Are you seeking a quick fix, love, eternal life, the truth, or favor with the LORD? Are you seeking “Him” or are you seeking what “you” want Him to be?

They called Him “…’Rabbi’…”. This designated Him as a Master Teacher. They were coming to be taught by Him that created all things!!! We call Him FATHER (ABBA). The One who has created all things can be called ABBA by us!!!

They asked Him, “…’where are You staying?’.” They wanted to know where was it that He dwelt? They wanted to hold court with Him. To be intimate with Him. They desired to get better acquainted with Him. They didn’t want to have a passing conversation. I believe that in their spirit, in their soul, CHRIST was calling them to him, after all, we all have a need to fill that void in us and nothing other than CHRIST can fill it.

So ask yourself, “What is it that I seek?” And remember that we should be seeking first the Kingdom. AMEN.
