Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:13 (ESV)

James 1:8, “he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.” A double minded individual, can I talk about it? How many of use can be labeled as so? How many of us have families or friends that can be characterized as double minded? They say that they are Christians that Jesus will accept them as they are, that they don’t have to change just because they know God. “I could still go out and get drunk and smoke my stuff, God knows my heart.” Or “I ain’t gonna stop cursing just because I believe in God. He knows that I believe in Him…” or “He sat and hung out with outcast, that’s what I am, why should I change?” how about “If I get up early enough on Sunday I’ll make it to church, I’m going clubbing tonight…”

When we come to a saving knowledge of CHRIST we must always be “… preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded…” We are “to be made new in the attitude of your minds (Ephesians 4:23 NIV)”. Our old habits are no longer acceptable, nor should we want to hang on to them. Our minds are to be renewed and no longer conformed to the patterns of this world (read Romans 12:2). “The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; (Romans 8:6 NIV).”

“…set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Grace is defined as; a manifestation of favor or good will, mercy, clemency, pardon, the influence or spirit of God operating in humans, moral strength. When CHRIST JESUS is revealed to us we are new creatures. Mind and Spirit. There should be “NO” excuses why we shouldn’t change. It is inevitable. It is the supernatural progression of the Holy Spirit in our life. Change is in part from the grace we receive from the LORD. Do not be “double-minded”.

Brethren, my prayer for you is that not one of us “…sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober (1 Thessalonians 5:6 NKJV). And that you and I “be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit (Luke 12:35 NASB).” Amen.
